No one inspires brand loyalty quite like Apple, so it makes sense that the tech behemoth pulled no punches in terms of spectacle and downright excitement at their recent Sept. 9 event. Of course, the main event was the reveal of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. But Apple revealed a multitude of cool new gadgets and features we simply can’t wait to get our hands on. Here are our picks.
1. The iPhone 6S’ Live Photo Feature
Apple is touting its new 3D Touch Display as the main reason you should purchase the 6S. Don’t get us wrong—the 3D Touch is a helpful, interactive feature that allows you to view app content without fully entering the app. But we were completely taken aback by the enhanced 12-megapixel camera which not only allows you to shoot in 4k, but captures a few seconds of video with each picture you take. This essentially turns every photo into a gif, which is endlessly fascinating.
2. AppleTV and “The Future of Television”
What started out as a hobby is now Apple’s hope to revolutionize how consumers watch TV for good. With Siri as your ultimate TV Guide, AppleTV allows you to search across Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime and iTunes; search for videos, episodes and movies with only limited information; play back something you may have missed in an instant (“Siri, what did she say?”), answer questions about movies, and tell you the latest sports scores or the weather. The most highly anticipated feature of AppleTV is also the fact that Apple has not only convinced networks like HBO and Showtime to sell their content via AppleTV without a cable subscription, but is in the works to create its own subscription service that will stream local TV. Time will tell if Apple revolutionizes television the way it intends to.
3. The Apple Pencil
The Apple Pencil, which is designed for and sold separately from the new iPad Pro, is one of the best styli on the market to date. It moves fluidly across the iPad Pro with immediate response time. It responds intuitively to force and precision. Additionally, it blends seamlessly with programs like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, allowing you to edit, write and draw with multi-tasking ease. Plus it charges via a lightning connector located directly within the iPad Pro.
